


During a move Colonel Paul Tyler’s grandkids find and open his old footlocker filled with his military memorabilia. They begin asking questions about his wartime experiences in Vietnam.
In late 1969, Second Lieutenant, Paul Tyler, a military intelligence officer survived a brutal attempt by a North Vietnamese regiment to overrun his small MACV Advisor team stationed along the Cambodian border. He is reassigned to the first of the three-man District Advisory Teams in the small town of Ap Bing in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam as the Phoenix Advisor.
He explains to his grandkids his various wartime duties and some of his combat experiences as an advisor as well as describing life living in a Vietnamese home and working with them on a daily basis.
He also tells them all about meeting a young American Red Cross worker on one of his trips to Saigon. He shares with them his love story with this young woman and about their letters and occasional meetings when he can get into Saigon.
